The Domino Path

Good day people,

well it's not a new subject in this blog after all. But since it was mentioned in two welcoming posts (ulay and shirin) and also in roy's comment (he can not make any posts this months, he exceeded his target :P), so I try to make it in one new post. It's hard for me to make it in one simple and clean post. Even for introductory, I needed 15 minutes to decide what story I have to use as background story. But anyway, here we go..

Few days ago, I almost got crushed by train because I passed the railway few seconds before it passed through. Everyone around the railway shouted at me, yelling I'm stupid, that I might get killed because my reckless action. On my way to the ticket queue, I was thinking, "What if I arrived just one second later than I should be? Will I still alive?"

What if I woke up late just few second? Got bath late? Or even worse, what if my high heels stucked in railroad? Those all things seem insignificant, but in my case, maybe I never go home in one piece again.

So it all starts from 'what if'. Like ulay or shirin said, what if someday we wake up and you have different name? Most likely you will have different life. Why it could happen? You know about fact that a butterfly can make typhoon? I don't know about so-called butterfly effect, chaos theory, or initial point. But I figure it in my own shallow thoughts.

I imagine that every single thing, even the smallest one, in this world is represented by domino. So there are billions of dominoes in my imagination, with certain size. Each of them stands in different position, in certain distance, making millions of complex route with even more branches. Now, say if one domino is being pushed by our finger, soon all the dominoes standing after it will fall too. I lend Roy's word, the single domino represents initial point. And the small force from finger is the trigger action, small motion that can cause many dominoes fall.

How many and which dominoes will fall depends on whose finger we use (maybe my small finger will cause less damage than Roy's finger), the force of finger (whether it's just small touch or a full-force), position of each dominoes, which part of initial domino that being pushed (we push the top or the bottom of the domino), and other factors.

That's how our world works. maybe the same problems, the same person, but with different time or action will result different ending. And once we "push" the initial point (make action), we can not reverse the effect of our action. Even if we want to fix the fallen dominoes, we can not arrange all of them exactly like before, no matter how hard we try.

There are some points i would like to emphasize. This theory againsts any statement sounds like this, "aww.. cmon. Who am I? The world will not change just because i do blablabla.." or "why should I do that? It will not change anything.." because the truth is, yourself represents one domino, which can be an initial point anytime and make big changes.

And this theory also agree with Roy, that we shouldn't regret our past actions. Because no matter how big we regret it, nothing will happen. Nothing will change. And there's nothing we could do to reverse it. What we can do is learning from our mistakes. And trust me, every single dominoes that fall has its own meaning. Everything happens in our life has its own reason.

Ugh, I start feeling head ache, just think about this further. The point is, start thinking every little thing you do. Who knows? Maybe your little action will leads massive changes.

Nice post nduk, and you didn't tell me that you were almost hit by the train! anyway thanks God, as I can still see you around, regardless the rejections I frequently received for my requests to hang out with you... :)

To me, in life, when a domino falls, or a person does something that triggers a chain reaction, yes it will be very hard to stop it as the momentum force will probably be quite huge once it starts, but there's always a way to stop the reaction along the chain, or divert it to another direction, for better or worse.

This may also happen in real politics, economy, culture, social, military campaign, etc.

In certain case, it's written, it's a path of a person life, and no one can change it however hard we try, and hence we just need to accept and live with it.

Good luck with the tests and please send my regards to all contributors. Keep going...
